Hello and welcome! I’m Katie- mom to 4 kids 9 and under living in the San Ramon Valley of the San Francisco Bay Area. Since this is the “about” page- I’ll share a little about myself here. I am a lover of my morning coffee and all things Hygee. Watching a movie in front of the fire while the rain pounds down is my idea of an awesome Friday night. I love reading books that draw you in and make it nearly impossible to put down. I LOVE to travel and look forward to showing my 4 children the world. I collect spoons. Yes, spoons. I have them from all over the country and the world. If you asked, I’d tell you that I’m not into zombies and yet I’ve probably seen World War Z 20 times and The Walking Dead is one of my favorite shows of all time.
I have a Bachelors and Masters degrees and practiced as a pediatric speech-language pathologist until I had my 4th child- when I decided I needed to take a break to focus on my kids.
I am also a professional blogger, though I’ve had little time the last couple years to devote to my blog.
Oh! And in the fall of 2017 I found myself doing something I never imagined I’d do. I’m homeschooling my oldest two children. Yup. Never in the plans.
So why a photography business? About 9 years ago, after having our first child, my lifelong love for photography was reawakened as I felt an intense desire to capture all these tiny, beautiful moments and milestones in our new lives as parents. While on maternity leave I bought my first real DSLR- a Nikon D80- and I never looked back.
After many years of family & friends asking me for advice about photography and encouraging me to start a business- I finally broke down and bought my domain name in late 2017. One of my main goals with my business, however, is not to just take pictures of people outside my little circle…but to share my passion and knowledge with others who want to learn to capture these everyday moments with their own kids. As a photographer- I can take some great images in a 45 minute session with your family- but what about later? The next day? The next week? What about those laughter-filled baths, the beautiful family hikes, or that dance recital? Birthdays, rainy days, holidays? I can’t follow you and capture those moments…you can capture them yourselves. And I can teach you how.
My 20 years working with children, my 13 years years as a speech pathologist, and my many years of being a mother as I learned photography gives me a unique perspective in teaching it to other parents. I know the craziness and exhaustion of parenthood and I know how it feels to want to capture moments in a special way- and the desire to have a hobby outside of parenting that brings you joy and fulfillment.
So that’s me! Now I want to learn all the things about you. Would you like to set up a session? Or maybe you’d like to take a class and learn for yourself. Either way- I want to know how I can help. Click on the contact tab above and let’s get to know each other!
